Wellbeing Champions

Pupil mental health and wellbeing is really important to us at Pinewood, This year, we have a fabulous group of Wellbeing Champions. They were voted for by their class and chosen for their desire to help others. They really care about the school and the other children. Their role is to support their classes and teachers by sharing wellbeing ideas.

We will meet through the term to discuss wellbeing in school and to complete some special projects. Our champions will be doing great things in our school for Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

During our first few weeks back at school, we have been voting for our 'Wellbeing Champions from each of our classes. We chose 2 children from each of our year groups in F2, Yr1 and Yr2.  We will be meeting in the following weeks to talk about wellbeing and our next steps as champions!!

On Friday 10th October, we marked World Mental Health Day…We joined in with thousands of people wearing yellow across the country to stand out and show up for young people’s mental health 😊     To help raise awareness of World Mental Health Day  our children and staff came dressed in something yellow and our wellbeing champions reminded everyone by putting up posters around school for all our community to see.  If you would like to know more, please follow the link to the Young Minds website.

One of our Yr2 pupils Albert decided to write his all his own thoughts on World Mental Health Day with some very special messages to share with our school. This was incredible awe are so proud of Albert for taking the time to write and share his ideas in his own time too!!

On November 10th we celebrated Anti Bullying week to help us show and raise awareness around difference. In our assemblies we looked at the difference between being unkind and bullying, friendship and kindness. We also celebrated the freedom to be who we are, embraced our differences and shared how to be kind to each other.  Our 'Odd socks day' was a great success!!

During Anti Bullying Week, we also shone a light on World Kindness day and Diabetes Awareness Day. We have a number of children in school who are living with diabetes and they are fabulous role models to all our children in showing resilience  in everything they do.

January 2026

The start of our Spring term saw the Wellbeing Champions being part of the Growth Mindset assembly and sharing how we can overcome difficult challenges. Yr2 were able to share their thoughts on when something was hard and how they had a growth mindset to persevere. As a school, it was discussed that new beginnings can mean challenging times but with friends and family to help we can overcome many things.

February 2026

Children’s Mental Health Week to place from 9-15 February 2026. The theme this year was, ‘This is My Place’, which is based around belonging and how we can feel a sense of belonging and help others feel like they belong.

When we feel we belong there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel they belong can make a difference and they have a greater sense of community and self-esteem. This year, we wanted children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to be empowered to work together to create a positive change for their mental health and wellbeing.

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we wanted all children and young people to be able to say – and believe - “This is my voice.”

To help raise awareness of Children’s Mental Health week we held an assembly, joined in with activities and invited our children to wear a scarf to remind them of our SCARF PSHE  values;

  • SAFETY - some scarves will be warm and comforting, helping to keep someone snug and safe in very cold weather!
  • CARING - some scarves might have been a present from a special person; they'll help make someone feel cared for. Wearing a scarf as part of religious faith can also help someone to feel cared for.
  • ACHIEVEMENT - some scarves might be part of a club, perhaps a sports team. These are waved when a club achieves (e.g. when a football team scores a goal!) They also show when someone belongs to something.
  • RESILIENCE - a football team's scarf can also help someone to remember that they can still support a team even if it's not doing well; they can show resilience when bouncing back from defeat or disappointment.
  • FRIENDSHIP - maybe some scarves were a gift from a friend and this makes them extra special.

MARCH 2026

Mindfulness affirmations help children think of positive messages that help to develop a child’s sense of self.

When used regularly, the children will absorb the positive message and become more positive in their outlook.

These are designed to help children feel calmer and more peaceful. By practising these each day, children can build their self-esteem and emotional well-being. At the start of each day, try reading an affirmation together, to help build their positivity and self-worth.
