Coronavirus Update 18th March

Dear parents/carers,

Just a few important announcements for you. Obviously information changes daily at the moment but please read this letter carefully as doing so will help us and your child in the event of school closure.

  1. Firstly we need to know that you are all signed up to seesaw as a way we can communicate with you regarding work and child safety in the event of closure. If you have not got access to seesaw please phone school if your child is off so we can sort this for you or pop in and talk to your class teacher.

  1. Secondly we need to ensure that your children all have access to the internet be that through a laptop, computer, IPad or telephone as we will be setting your child work to complete on line. If you have not got access to the internet please let your class teacher know ASAP. If your child is off school, please let us know through seesaw or leave a message with the school office if you do not have access to seesaw.

  1. We need to have your most up to date contact number in school. If you have recently changed phone number and are not sure if you have let school know, please contact the school office. Ms Otter and Miss Reville will be checking in with school families in the event of closure and if we cannot get hold of you by phone and have concerns, we would have to do a home visit. Please safeguard us from having to do this by supplying us with an up to date number and answer your phone if called.

We are in the hands of the government regarding school closure, unless we end up with so few staff that we can’t operate safely in which I would be forced to make a decision earlier. At present we only have one staff member self-isolating but this could change daily. Mrs Parker as you know is pregnant so will be self-isolating for the foreseeable future. She has been very distressed about this as she didn’t want to leave her class and it all came as a bit of a shock on Monday night. She continues to plan for the class and is in close contact with school. We have staffing for the Jaguars covered for this week and next.

As you can imagine the office staff are very busy making preparations and ensuring the safety of all. If your child is ill or is off school and you have not already informed us about self-isolation then please phone school and report the absence. We have to report to the DFE on absence and have specific codes in relation to absence and self-isolation which the government will no doubt need to collect from us. It is so much easier for us as a school to not have to phone parents to elicit reasons for absence. PLEASE PHONE  0115 9521717 WITH REASONS OF ABSENCE BEFORE 9:30 am.

We will be cancelling all Easter activities including the bouncy castle event and the Easter bonnet parade. We will also be cancelling parents evening for the week after Easter.

Keep safe and thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely

Rachel Otter
